女性主义意识在《喜福会》中的体现
摘要:
谭恩美(AmyTan)是一位深受美国甚至全世界欢迎的华裔女性作家.她的第一本小说《喜福会》于1989年问世.此小说一经推出便深受欢迎,跃居美国畅销书长达九个月。
笔者发现小说《喜福会》中弥漫着女性主义的氛围,领会它们的含义对于我们更加透彻地理解小说的深刻内涵和作者的创作思想会有很大的帮助。
本论文一共分为五章章回顾了谭恩美的主要作品和其文学地位,然后介绍了小说《喜福会》的主要内容,借此引出国内外近期对此小说的研究综述。
本人认为谭恩美作为一名女性华裔作家于美国主流文化而言,身为外来者的她是“他者”,对以男权话语为主流的文坛而语,把女性定义为“第二性”的她亦是“他者”,但即使如此,谭恩美女性主角们却敢于打破沉默,反抗性别歧视,敢于说出自己的声音,以第一人称的方式讲出自己的故事,特别是喜福会中的妈妈们用自己在中国的经历来教育自己的女儿们,最终和她们一起取得了胜利,赢得了幸福。

AmyTan(AmyTan)isawelcomebytheUnitedStatesandeventhewholeworldofChinesewomenwriters.HerfirstnovelTheJoyLuckClubcamein1989.Thisnovelwillbelauncheduponthepopularityofbest-sellingbookrankstheUnitedStatesaslongasininemonths.Wecanfindthat,inthefieldofliterarycriticism,theresearchonthethemeoffeminisminliteraryworkshasbecomeagrowingfocusoffeministattention.InthenovelTheJoyLuckClub,feminismisoneofthemostimportantthemes.Itisofgreatuseforustocomprehendtheimplicationsoffeminismawakening,whichcanhelpustobetterprobetheprofoundconnotationsofthenovelandthewritingintentionofthewriter.IthinkAmyTanasfemaleChinesewritersintermsofgenderandcultureofbeingadoubleedge.IntermsofmainstreamcultureintheUnitedStates,asoutsiders,sheis”theOther”,onthemainstreamofliterarydiscourseandlanguage,thewomendefinedas"secondary"Sheisalsothe"Other",butEvenso,towriteaboutAmyTannovelThickClub,thefemaleprotagonistwhohasthecouragetobreakthesilence,againstfeudaloppression,genderdiscriminationandracialdiscrimination.Theyarebraveenoughspeaktheirvoice,andusethefirstpersonwaytotelltheirownstories,TheJoyLuckClub,especiallythemotherswiththeirownexperiencesinChinatoeducatetheirdaughtersandwinthevictorytogetherwiththeirdaughters.

In1952,AmyTanwasborninOakland,California.Herfather,JohnTanwho
immigratedtotheAmericanfromChinatoleavethecommotionoftheChineseCivil
War.Amy’smother,Daisydivorcedwitharudehusbandandlosthertwodaughters.ForthebackgroundofherparentswhogavethespecialeducationtoherwhichprovidedagreatdealofwritingmaterialsforTan’snovel.Beingraisedupandeducatedinthedominantwesternculture,youngAmyfoundherselfalwaysatoddswithherhope.Becauseintheirminds,theAmericancircumstanceprovidesthefairchancetoeverybodywhereveryoucomefrom,atthesametimetheChinesecharacter’sspecialfeaturesincludingflexible,easy-goingandsoonwhichcanbestsuittheAmericancircumstanceintheireyes.
However,thegrown-upofAmyTanwasnotsmooth.HerelderbrotherPeterand
herfatherJohnTandiedofbraintumourswithineightmonthswhenshewasonlyfifteen.HermotherDaisyTanbecameoutofmindmoreorlessaftergoingthroughthisdisaster.Later,shebelievedthatthemisfortunewasbroughtbytheimbalancedfengshuioftheirhouseinSantaClara,thoughshemovedtoSwitzerlandwithherremainingtwochildren.AtAmyTan’shighschool,shewasconsideredasanoutsiderbecauseofherdifferentbackgroundwiththenativestudent.Shefellinwithagroupofdrug-dealingandwasarrestedwhenshewassixteenyearsold.AfterbeingoutofprisonsheevenplannedtoelopetoAustralia.

TheJoyLuckClubisaChineseAmericanwriterAmyTan'sfirstnovel.Noveldescribesthefourpersonality,thefateofChinesewomenofdifferentnationalcrisis.IntheUnitedStates-borndaughters,thoughlooksverysimilarwiththemother,theyarequitedifferentfromthevaluesoftheChinesewoman.Furthermore,thisnovelindicatesthepeopleindifferenttheenvironmenthadtobearthetwoculturesandvaluesofthecollision.
