Oftheteenagersthathadaccessedecigarettes,16%hadneversmoked,23%hadtriedsmoking,12%onlysmokedwhendrinking,and14%wereexsmokers.Theresearchalsofoundteenagerswhodrankalcoholweresignificantlymorelikelytohaveaccessedecigarettesthannondrinkers.
Amongthosewhohadneversmoked,itwasfoundthatthosewhoregularlyhaveexcessive(过多的)drinkingwerefourtimesmorelikelytoaccessecigarettesthanthosewhoneverdrink.Inallofthosethatdrink,regardlessofsmokingstatus,ecigaretteaccesswasassociatedwithexcessivedrinkingandinvolvementwithviolenceafterdrinking.Theresearcherssaidtheirfindingssuggestthatteenagerswhouseecigarettesaremostsusceptibletootherformsofsubstanceuseandrisktakingbehaviors.
