For33years,MadameTussaudtookherexhibitionaroundtheBritishisles.Then,in1835,shefoundapermanent‘home’forthewaxworksinBakerStreet,inLondon.
In1850,MadameTussauddied.Shewaseighty-nine.Hersonsinheritedthebusinessand,in1884,hergrandsonsmovedtheexhibitiontoMaryleboneRoad,whereitstillistoday.
Now,morethantwoandahalfmillionpeoplefromallovertheworldvisitMadameTussaud’severyyear.It’sthemostpopulartouristattractioninGreatBritain.

IntheancientOlympics,therewerejustthreelengthsofrunningraces.
Theshortestraceswascalledthe‘stade’orthe‘dromos.’Therunnersranjustonelengthofthestadium,startingwiththeirtoesinagrooveonthestartingline.Thiswasconsideredthemostimportantoftheraces,justasmanypeoplebelievethe100metersisthegreatestracetoday.
Thenextdistancewasovertwolengthsofthestadiumandwasknownasthe‘diaulos’.Therunnershadtorunround,apostatthefarendofstadiumandthenrunbacktowheretheyhadstarted.

Inalloftheseraces,therunnerswentupanddown,notround,thearena.Ifthereweretoomanycompetitorsforasinglerace,heatswererunfollowedbythefinal.
Runnerswereallowedtocompeteatallthreedistancesandanyonewhowonthethreeeventswasknownasa‘triastes’.Thegreatest‘triastes’ofallwasLeonidasofRhodes.Havingwonallthreerunningracesin164BC,hewentontorepeatthisachievementinthenextthreegames.
Inadditiontotheseraces,therewasaspecialraceinwhichtwenty-fiverunnerswearingtheirhelmetsandlegarmourandcarryingtheirshieldscompeted.Veryoften,theyranintoeachotherordroppedtheirshieldsontheway.ThiswasalwaysthelastraceoftheGamesandcausedgreatexcitementamongthecrowd.

Chinawillcontinueitspolicyofencouragingpeopletostudyabroad,Vice-MinisterofEducationWeiYusaidlastweek.
Chinawillalsoencouragestudentstoreturntothemotherlandtoparticipateinitsmodernizationdrive,shesaid,andiftheywanttogoabroadagainthecountrywillgivethemthegreenlight.
OnJune23,1978,thelateDengXiaoping,thenChineseVice-Premier,decidethatmorepeopleshouldstudyabroad,andthepolicysparkeda20-yearstudyabroadfever.
InChinesecities,itisdifficulttofindayoungpersonwhohasnotheardofTOEFL(TestofEnglishasaForeignLanguage)orGRE(GraduateRecordExamination),theprimarytestsrequiredtoattendgraduateschoolintheUnitedStates.
