Asweaccumulatedmoredevices,however,wedidn’tthrowoutouroldones.“TheLiving-roomtelevisionisreplacedandgetsplantedinthekid’sroom,andsuddenlyoneday,youhaveaTVineveryroomofthehouse,”saidoneresearcher.Theaveragenumberofelectronicdevicesrosefromfourperhouseholdin1992to13in2007.We’renotjustkeepingtheseolddevices-wecontinuetousethem.AccordingtotheanalysisofBabbin’steam,olddesktopmonitorsandboxTV’swithcathoderaytubesaretheworstdeviceswiththeirenergyconsumptionandcontributiontogreenhousegasemissions(排放)morethandoublingduringthe1992to2007window.
