GonewiththewindistheonlynovelwrittenbyMargaretMitchell,whichisoneoftheclassiclovenovelsinthehistoryofAmericanliterature.ThenovelsetsinthebackgroundoftheAmericancivilwarandpostwarreconstruction,focusesontheloverelationshipandlifeexperienceofmaincharacters,andmainlydepictstheloveandmarriageoftheheroine,Scarlett.
Firstly,thepapermakesananalysisofScarlett’sviewsoflove.Ontheonehandsheisanidealisttowardslove;ontheotherhandsheisuncertainaboutlove.SecondlythepaperfocusesonScarlett’sviewsofmarriage.Scarlettgetsmarriedthreetimes,buteachmarriageisnotbasedonlove,justforsatisfyingherneed.InretaliationforAshley,shegetsmarriedwithCharles;inordertolive,shegetsmarriedwithFrank;inordertosatisfyhervanity,shegetsmarriedwithRhett.Eventually,sheobtainsthemoneyandpositionwhichsheisdyingfor,andrebuildsTara,themanor,throughmarriageandherowneffort.Atlast,thecausesofScarlett’sviewsofloveandmarriagehavebeendiscussed.ThroughanalyzingScarlett’sviewsofloveandmarriageinGonewiththewind,thepaperaimsathelpingyoungpeopleinmodernsocietytoestablishproperattitudetowardsloveandmarriage.
