1.Introduction
Everyyearalargenumberofgraduatescomeintothesociety,thenwearefacingaproblem---getajob.Becauseofthefinancialcrisis,inrecentyears,theemploymentrateofuniversitygraduatesisverylow,whichrequiresthatwemusthaveaclearcareerplanning.Andthenwewillbeinvincibleintheworkplace.Forthatpurpose,thepresentsurveyismade.
1.1Purpose
Thesurveysetsitsgoalatwhethercollegestudentshaveaclearcareerplanningtodealwithfuturesocialcompetition.Then,throughoursurvey,wecanfindtheproblem,andgivesuggestionsonhowtomakeagoodcareerplanningandimprovetheemploymentrate.
1.2Subjects
Inordertomakethesurveymorepersuasive,wedidtheresearchamongstudentsinouruniversity,includingfreshmen,sophomores,juniorsandseniors.100copiesofquestionnairesintotalwerehandedoutandallofthemwerecollectedbackwhichareeffective.Intervieweesarefromdifferentmajorsanddifferentgrades.11ofthemarefreshmen,42aresophomores,21arejuniors,and26areseniors.Amongalltheinterviewees,include44boysand56girls.
1.3TimeandPlace
Time:
Thesurveytookaboutoneweek,fromNovember18thtoNovember24th,2013.ThequestionnairesweredistributedonNovember19thandcollectedbackonNovember20th.

QinggongCollege,HebeiUnitedUniversity
1.4Instrument
Questionnairesareusedtocollectdata.ConsideringthequestionnaireinEnglishmaybringsometroublestotheintervieweeswithdifferentEnglishlevels,weadopttheChineseversioninsteadoftheEnglishone(SeeEnglishandChineseversionsinappendices).Theintervieweesareselectedatrandomtomakethedatamorereliable.Forinstance,thequestionnairesaregiventothestudentsstudyinginclassroomsandtothosestayingindormitories.What’smore,studentsfromallgradesaremadesuretoparticipateinthisinvestigation.
2.DateCollectionandAnalysis
On19thNovember,weinvestigated100students,andallofthemreturnedtheirquestionnaires.
Toensurethevalidityofthesurvey,thesixmembersinourteamweredividedintothreegroupstohandoutthequestionnaires,goingtodifferentplacesandinvestigatingdifferentstudents.Mostoftheintervieweeswerewillingtohelpuswiththesurvey.Allthequestionnaireswerereturned.Onthewhole,theyfinishedthequestionnairescarefully.Onlyfewquestionswereansweredcasually,whichbroughtussometroubleswhenwedidthedatacollection.
Ingeneral,mostoftheinformationwecollectedwasusefulandaccurate.
AlltheanalysesarebasedonQuestion2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11and13.
2.1Analysisoncollegestudents’careeraims
AccordingtoQuestion2and4,wegetaresultaboutwhetherstudentshaveacertainaims.
Result:
Accordingtothefigure,studentswithhighergradehavemoredefiniteaims.Onthecontrast,thenumberofstudentswithuncertainarmsorwithoutaimswasdecreased.Thesophomoresareonconditionofwandering.
Reasons:
1)Thefreshmenhavemoresparetimeandtheyarecuriousabouteverything,sotheydonotrealizetheimportanceofjob.
2)Theseniorarefacinggraduation,andhavetobeindependent,sotheyhaveacertainaims.
2.2Analysisoncareerorientation
Question3and8aredesignedtoknowtherelationsbetweenstudents’majorsandcareerorientations.

TheFigurerevealsthatmostoftheliberalstudentswanttogetintoForeign-investedenterprise,becausetheyarelongforagoodsalary.MoststudentswhomajoredinPolytechnicwanttoenterState-ownedenterprise.AndsomestudentswanttoenterthegovernmentorState-ownedenterprise.Onthecontrast,thestudentsmajoredinartsareless,sowecan’tgettheaccurateresult.(Becauseoftheinterpersonallimit,weareliberalartsstudents,therespondentsalmostmajoredinliberalarts,sotheresultmaynotbeaccurate.)
2.3Analysisonwhystudentschoosetheenterprises
Question9willshowthereasons.
Result:
Fromthisdiagram,wecaneasilyseethathalfofthestudentschoosethehighincomeworks.About25%ofthestudentsconsiderthebrightfuture,sotheychoosetherising-sunindustry.Andabout18%ofthestudentsconsiderwhethertheworkisconsistentwiththeirownmajors.Andfewstudentschooseworkforotherreasons.
2.4Analysisonsalary
BasedonQuestion11,wegetFigurebelow.
Accordingtothestatistics,obviously,mostofthestudentsaresatisfiedwiththesalarybetweenRMB3000-4000.OnlyafewstudentschoosethesalaryunderRMB2500.AndtheothersaresatisfiedwiththesalarybetweenRMB2500-3000andoverRMB4000.
2.5Analysisonworkingareas
Question5isdesignedtoknowwheredostudentschoosetoworkin.
Ascanbeseenfromthechart,halfofthestudentschoosetoworkincentralbig-middlecities.Onlyafewstudentswanttoworkinwesternbig-middlecitiesandnortheasternheavyindustrialareas.About30%ofthestudentsarefondofeasterncoastaldevelopedareas.
Themajorityofstudentschoosewheretoworkinisbasedonthelivingconditionsanddevelopmentopportunities.Sotheychooseeasterncoastaldevelopedareasorcentralbig-middlecitiesastheirworkingplaces.Andfewstudentschoosewesternbig-middlecitiesandnortheasternheavyindustrialareas.Inaddition,theyalsoconsidertheirparents’suggestions,teachers’suggestions,friends’suggestionsandtheirowndesires.
Question7willshowtheresult.
Aswecanseefromthechart,mostofthestudentsarenotwillingtoworkinasmalltown,onlybecausethereisnothingcoulddobuttodoit.Ofcourse,somewishtogotohometowntowork.
Reason:
1)Workinasmalltownremainsthelowerincome.Studentsareeagerforhigherincome.
2)Manystudentslongforcitylife,theycannotacceptthehardlife.
3.Conclusions
Throughthewholesurvey,wefindagoodphenomenonthatmoststudentsinouruniversityhavethedesiretotakeadvantageofthecareerplanning,especiallythereferencesintheirownmajor.Partofthestudentshaveacertaincareerplanning,theycanlistwhattheywanttodo,howmuchsalarytheywanttoget,andwheretogetajob.What’smore,wearegladtofindthatmostpeoplehavealifepurpose,althoughitisnotyetpractical.Butthatisassociatedwithage.Freshmanhadgonetocollegenotlongbefore,maynotsoonmaketheirfutureoccupationplanning.Onthecontrast,seniorsarefacingthepressureoffindingajob,sotheymusthaveacertainplanning.
However,westillfindsomeproblemsoncollegestudents,therearethreemainproblemsasfollow:
1)Goalsareunrealistic,askingtoomuch.Moststudentsarelongingforhighpay,livingconditionsanddevelopmentopportunities,butdonotawareofthegrimreality.Themajoritystudentsareblindpursuitcitylife.
2)Notwillingtodevelopfromentrylevel.Mostofthestudentsmayserveasclasspresident,membersofthestudentunionorotherduties.Sooncearrive
at
theworkplace,theycannotaccepttostartatthebottom.Forexample,minoritystudentsadmiretogotoworkinafarawaytown,althoughitisdifficulttofindajob.
3)Nosubjectiveopinion.Ontheonehand,studentsonlyadmirebetterconditions,nothaveaguideofindividualinterests.Ontheotherhand,somestudentscoulddonothingbutlistentotheirparentsorfriends,sotheycouldnothaveacertainaims.
4.Suggestions
4.1Definitegoal
Thegoalisthedirection,youcangetnowherewithoutobjectiveinlife.Ifyouheadedintherightdirection,eachstep,andnomaterhowsmall,isgettingyouclosertoyourgoal.Asthesayinggoes,wherethereisawill,thereisaway.Inthissurvey,wecanseethattherearealotofstudentsdon’thaveaclearaim,whichisdisadvantageoustothedevelopmentoftheirfuture.It’sbetterforthemtomakeacleargoal.
4.2Self-assessment
Thepurposeofself-assessmentistounderstandourown.Theself-assessmentincludesinterests,strengths,knowledge,skills,characters,andsoon.Onlyknowourselves,canwemaketherightchoicewhichissuitabletoourcareerdevelopment.
