fouryearsagoasihadtheprivilegetotravelallacrossthecountryandmeetamericansfromallwalksoflife.idecidednobodyelseshouldhavetoenduretheheartbreakofabrokenhealthcaresystem.nooneinthewealthiestnationonearthshouldgobecausetheygetsick.nobodyshouldhavetotelltheirdaughtersorsonsthedecisionstheycanandcannotmakeforthemselvesareconstrainedbecauseofsomepoliticiansinwashington.
四年前我有幸周游了全国,遇到了各行各业的人们。
我下定了决心不让任何人由于医疗保健系统的不健全而心碎,不让这个世界上最富有的的国家的任何人因为疾病而穷困潦倒。
不让任何人需要告诉自己的子女,他们能做什么,不能做什么,会由华盛顿的某些政客而左右。

itwasbuiltbyworkingmenandwomenwhodugintowhatlittlesavingstheyhadtogivefivedollarsandtendollarsandtwentydollarstothiscause.itgrewstrengthfromtheyoungpeoplewhorejectedthemythoftheirgeneration'sapathy;wholefttheirhomesandtheirfamiliesforjobsthatofferedlittlepayandlesssleep;fromthenot-so-youngpeoplewhobravedthebittercoldandscorchingheattoknockonthedoorsofperfectstrangers;fromthemillionsofamericanswhovolunteered,andorganized,andprovedthatmorethantwocenturieslater,agovernmentofthepeople,bythepeopleandforthepeoplehasnotperishedfromthisearth.thisisyourvictory.
iknowyoudidn'tdothisjusttowinanelectionandiknowyoudidn'tdoitforme.youdiditbecauseyouunderstandtheenormityofthetaskthatliesahead.forevenaswecelebratetonight,weknowthechallengesthattomorrowwillbringarethegreatestofourlifetime-twowars,aplanetinperil,theworstfinancialcrisisinacentury.evenaswestandheretonight,weknowtherearebraveamericanswakingupinthedesertsofiraqandthemountainsofafghanistantorisktheirlivesforus.therearemothersandfatherswhowilllieawakeaftertheirchildrenfallasleepandwonderhowthey'llmakethemortgage,orpaytheirdoctor'sbills,orsaveenoughforcollege.thereisnewenergytoharnessandnewjobstobecreated;newschoolstobuildandthreatstomeetandalliancestorepair.

letusresistthetemptationtofallbackonthesamepartisanshipandpettinessandimmaturitythathaspoisonedourpoliticsforsolong.letusrememberthatitwasamanfromthisstatewhofirstcarriedthebanneroftherepublicanpartytothewhitehouse-apartyfoundedonthevaluesofself-reliance,individualliberty,andnationalunity.thosearevaluesweallshare,andwhilethedemocraticpartyhaswonagreatvictorytonight,wedosowithameasureofhumilityanddeterminationtohealthedividesthathaveheldbackourprogress.aslincolnsaidtoanationfarmoredividedthanours,“wearenotenemies,butfriends…thoughpassionmayhavestraineditmustnotbreakourbondsofaffection.”andtothoseamericanswhosesupportihaveyettoearn-imaynothavewonyourvote,butihearyourvoices,ineedyourhelp,andiwillbeyourpresidenttoo.
