Hello,Chicago!
IfthereisanyoneouttherewhostilldoubtsthatAmericaisaplacewhereallthingsarepossible;whostillwondersifthedreamofourfoundersisaliveinourtime;whostillquestionsthepowerofourdemocracy,tonightisyouranswer.
It'stheanswertoldbylinesthatstretchedaroundschoolsandchurchesinnumbersthisnationhasneverseen;bypeoplewhowaitedthreehoursandfourhours,manyfortheveryfirsttimeintheirlives,becausetheybelievedthatthistimemustbedifferent;thattheirvoicecouldbethatdifference.
It'stheanswerspokenbyyoungandold,richandpoor,DemocratandRepublican,black,white,Latino,Asian,NativeAmerican,gay,straight,disabledandnotdisabled—Americanswhosentamessagetotheworldthatwehaveneverbeenacollectionofredstatesandbluestates;weare,andalwayswillbe,theUnitedStatesofAmerica.
It'stheanswerthatledthosewhohavebeentoldforsolongbysomanytobecynical,andfearful,anddoubtfulofwhatwecanachievetoputtheirhandsonthearcofhistoryandbenditoncemoretowardthehopeofabetterday.
It'sbeenalongtimecoming,buttonight,becauseofwhatwedidonthisday,inthiselection,atthisdefiningmoment,changehascometoAmerica.

Iwanttothankmypartnerinthisjourney,amanwhocampaignedfromhisheartandspokeforthemenandwomenhegrewupwithonthestreetsofScrantonandrodewithonthattrainhometoDelaware,thevice-president-electoftheUnitedStates,JoeBiden.

Tomycampaignmanager,DavidPlouffe;mychiefstrategist,DavidAxelrod;andthebestcampaignteameverassembledinthehistoryofpolitics—youmadethishappen,andIamforevergratefulforwhatyou'vesacrificedtogetitdone.
Butaboveall,Iwillneverforgetwhothisvictorytrulybelongsto—itbelongstoyou.
Iwasneverthelikeliestcandidateforthisoffice.Wedidn'tstartwithmuchmoneyormanyendorsements.OurcampaignwasnothatchedinthehallsofWashington—itbeganinthebackyardsofDesMoinesandthelivingroomsofConcordandthefrontporchesofCharleston.
Itwasbuiltbyworkingmenandwomenwhodugintowhatlittlesavingstheyhadtogive$5and$10and$20tothiscause.Itgrewstrengthfromtheyoungpeoplewhorejectedthemythoftheirgeneration'sapathy;wholefttheirhomesandtheirfamiliesforjobsthatofferedlittlepayandlesssleep;fromthenot-so-youngpeoplewhobravedthebittercoldandscorchingheattoknockonthedoorsofperfectstrangers;fromthemillionsofAmericanswhovolunteeredandorganized,andprovedthatmorethantwocenturieslater,agovernmentofthepeople,bythepeopleandforthepeoplehasnotperishedfromthisearth.Thisisyourvictory.

Theroadaheadwillbelong.Ourclimbwillbesteep.Wemaynotgetthereinoneyear,orevenoneterm,butAmerica—IhaveneverbeenmorehopefulthanIamtonightthatwewillgetthere.Ipromiseyou:
Weasapeoplewillgetthere.
Therewillbesetbacksandfalsestarts.Therearemanywhowon'tagreewitheverydecisionorpolicyImakeaspresident,andweknowthatgovernmentcan'tsolveeveryproblem.ButIwillalwaysbehonestwithyouaboutthechallengesweface.Iwilllistentoyou,especiallywhenwedisagree.And,aboveall,Iwillaskyoujoinintheworkofremakingthisnationtheonlywayit'sbeendoneinAmericafor221years—blockbyblock,brickbybrick,callusedhandbycallusedhand.
