摘要
如今,电影现在已经成为一个重要的文化媒介,随着国际间文化交流的发展,越来越多的人开始关注电影。
电影片名的翻译只是电影翻译的一小部分,但是它起到非常重要的作用。
众所周知,一直以来如何翻译好电影片名已经成为翻译界热烈讨论的话题。
西方电影片名的翻译与华语电影片名翻译有着很大的不同,在翻译的过程中,由于译者的想法,经验以及知识的不同,翻译出来的译名也会有所不同。
电影是文化交流非常重要的一部分,所以,各国的文化正在成为电影中所要表达的主要内容。
彼得·纽马克的交际翻译理论可以很好地解决电影片名翻译的现状。
本文拟从纽马克教授的交际翻译理论入手,指出电影片名翻译的重要性,讨论电影片名的交际翻译特性,并从交际翻译理论方面对中英文电影片名进行举例分析。

Abstract
Withthedevelopmentoftheinternationalcultureexchange,moreandmorepeoplepaycloseattentiontothemovies,whichhavebecomeanimportantculturemedia.
Themovietitletranslationisasmallpartinthemovietranslation,butplaysaveryimportantrole.Asisknowntoall,howtotranslatethefilmtitleshasbecomeacontroversialtopicinthefieldoftranslationforalongtime;thetranslationofwesternfilmtitlesisquitedifferentfromthetranslationofChineseones.Intheprocessoftranslation,differenttranslatorswillhavedifferenttranslationsofthesamefilmtitle,becauseallofthemhavetheirownideas,experienceandknowledge.Thefilmplaysaveryimportantpartofculturalexchanges,therefore,thecultureofthecountriesisbecomingamajorcontenttopresentinthefilms.
PeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslationtheorycansufficientlyaccountforthecurrentsituationinmovietitletranslation.ThispaperplanstocommencefromProfessorPeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslationandpointtheimportanceofmovietitletranslation,thendiscussesthecommunicativetranslationcharactersofmovietitletranslationandanalysestheexamplesofmutualtranslationbetweenChineseandEnglishmovietitlesoncommunicativetranslationprinciples.

1.1Researchbackground
Movieisanartjustlikeliterature,paintingandmusic.Usually,asuccessfulmovieisrecognizedbytheaudienceandgainsprofitforthefilmcompany.Movieisawindowoflanguageculture,fromafilm,wemaypeektheculturepatternsofanotionsothatwecaneasilyknowthecustomsofthosenations.Themovietitleisatagwithseveralwordsbuttellstheaudiencemuchinformationbeforetheywatchthefilm,itisthesoulofthefilm,anditplaysagreatroleofthepulloftheboxoffice.Everytimewehearaboutamovie,wealwayswanttoknowitstitlefirst,andthenwedecidewhetherornottoseeit.
ThetranslationofwesternfilmtitlesisquitedifferentfromthatChinesefilmtitles.Theformertaketherealityimportantwhilethelatterconsiderthemoodgreat.Butthroughtheages,thetranslationofthemovietitledoesnotgaintheattentionsoftheaudience,especiallythevalueandresearchoftranslationcircle.Mosttranslatorsaremoreinclinedtotranslatebooksorsomeotherliteraryworks,theyvaluethoseliteralworksbutdespisethetranslationofmovietitles,andmaybetheythinkthetranslationofmovietitlesisnotworthresearching.Actually,themovietitletranslationisveryimportant,becausethemovieisbecomingmoreandmorepopular,andithasbecomeapartofpeople’slives.
Foralongtime,alotoftranslatorstranslatemovietitleswiththeapplicationsoftransliteration,literaltranslationandfreetranslation;someothertranslatorsusethedomesticationandforeignizationmethods,basedontheNada’stheoryoffunctionalequivalence,totranslatemovietitles.Theso-calleddomesticationandforeignizationaretwodifferenttranslationstrategies.Domestication,adoptedVenuti’sdefinition,isatranslationstrategyof"takingnationalcenterattitude,consideringtheculturalvaluesofthetargetlanguage,andbringingtheoriginalauthorintothetargetlanguageculture"(Venuti,1991).Theforeignizationstrategyisto“ignorenationalvalues,acceptthelanguageandculturaldifferencesofsourcelanguage,andbringthetargetlanguagereadersintothesourcelanguagesituation”(WangDongfeng,2002:
24-25).Specifictothemovietitletranslation,thedomesticationtranslationaimstopleasetargetaudiencewithfluentexpressionoftargetlanguage;itscharacterisusingtargetlanguagereaders’customarywayofexpressiontoconveythecontentsoftheoriginalmovietitleandlocalizingtheforeignthings.Andtheforeignizationtranslationcompletelyignoresthetargetlanguageandculturalwayofexpressionwhichhaslongexistedandpursuitsanewunfamiliarexpression.Itadvocatesthattheoriginalauthoristhedestination;givesprominencetoexoticfeelinginstyleandotherprominent,andconveystheoriginaltextofexoticculturesasfaraspossibletotargetreadersandmakesthemacceptthespecificityofthealienculture,meanwhileenrichesexpressionsoftargetlanguage(WenHong,2007).
Thesemethodsareallveryuseful,butthispaperaimstointroducetheProfessorPeterNewmark’stranslationprinciples,andguidethetranslationofmovietitleintherightway.
1.2Researchpurpose
ThispaperwilltalkaboutthecurrentsituationofChineseandEnglishfilmtitletranslation.Theaimsofthispaperare:
first,toreviewthecommontranslationmethodsofmovietitletranslation;second,tointroduceprofessorPeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslationtheorytothemovietitletranslators;third,toproposesomefactorswhichinfluencethetranslationofmovietitlesandsumupfiveprinciplesthetranslatorsshouldfollowwhentheyusecommunicativetranslation;fourth,toanalyzethebenefitsandlimitationsofusingthecommunicativetranslationtranslatemovietitles.Inaword,thispaperstrivestorecommendthecommunicativetranslationmethodstomovietitletranslators.
1.3Researchmethodology
Thetranslationofmovietitleisanimportantandcreativejob.Itneedsintelligenceandhardworksofthetranslatorstocreateagreattranslation;meanwhileitalsoneedssometranslationmethodsandprinciplestofollow.WecancommencethetranslationofmovietitlefromPeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslationtheory,combiningthecurrentsituationofChineseandEnglishmovietitletranslation,followingtheprinciplesoftranslation,andstrivefor“equivalenteffects”ofmovietitletranslation.Thecommunicativetranslationisaremarkabletranslationmethod,anditcanresolvethemovietitletranslationsufficiently.

Actuallythetranslationofmovietitleisassameasthetranslationofthebooktitle,thetranslatedtitleshouldnotonlymeetthestandardsofsourcelanguage,butalsobefullofartisticcharm;itisnecessarytobefaithfultothecontentoftheoriginalname,toreflectthecharacteristicsofsourcelanguage,moreover,toachievetheartofre-creation.Weshouldtakefulladvantageofexistingtranslationtheoriesandmethods,andputthemintomovietitletranslation,sothatwecantranslatemovietitleswell.Thispaper,commencingfromProfessorPeterNewmark’scommunicativetranslation,wantstoproposeanewvisualangleofmovietitletranslationforthetranslators,andletsthemhavemorechoicesinmovietitletranslation.
1.5Organizationofthepaper
Themovieplaysagreatimportantofexchangeindifferentcultures,therefore,weshouldattachimportancetoit,especiallymovietitles,becausethemovietitleisaveryimportantpartofamovie,itplaysaroleofguidingtheappreciationofamovie.
