Abstract:
DuetotheshortageofEnglishteachingmethod,HappyTeachingMethodhasbeenappliedwidely,especiallyinmiddleschools.Sinceitisapplied,ithasposedagreatchallengeforthetraditionalteachinginChina.AlthoughHappyTeachingMethodispopularwiththeteachersandstudentsinChina,itstillhasalongwaytogo.
Thispaperfirstintroducestheorigin,thedefinitionandthefunctionofHappyTeachingMethod,andthenitputsemphasisontheapplicationofHappyTeachingMethodinthemiddleschoolEnglishteachingbasedonpracticalteachingexperiences,andsomesuggestionshavebeenputforwardinordertoimprovemiddleschoolEnglishteachingmethodsandtoenhanceitseffect.

愉快教学法在初中英语教学中的应用
摘要:
在初中英语教学中,由于英语教学方法单一,愉快教学法这种新的教学方法于是被广泛传播。
它的采用,是对传统的教学方式的挑战。
在中国,即使许多老师对愉快教学法已有所耳闻,但要对它熟练掌握并运用,则远远不够。
本文首先介绍了愉快教学法的起源,定义及其功能,然后基于自己教学实践探究了愉快教学法在初中英语教学中的应用,并提出了一些可行性建议,以求改善中学英语教学法,提高中学英语教学效果。

AtpresenttherearesomanyChinesepeoplelearningEnglishcrazily.Notonlyhavewestudentstriedtolearnitwell,butalsootherwalksoflife.Whydoesithappen?
Maybetheyarejustinterestedinit,andmaybetheyjustwanttocopewiththeexamstogetfurthereducation,maybemanagingaforeignerlanguageisgoodforfindingasatisfyingjob,orsomethingelse?
ActuallyIcan’texplainthissituationclearly.Asweallknow,Englishiswidelyusedinmanyrespects,anditplaysanimportantroleinmodernsociety.Sowetryourbesttolearnit.
AllofusspendmuchtimeandenergyonEnglishlearning,butwhat’stheresult?
Maybemostpeoplehavetosay:
“ourEnglishisstillverypoor.”Why?
What’swrongwithEnglishteachinginChina?
Asforus,thisisaseriousproblemwhichisworthpondering.
Thetest-orientededucationforcessomestudentstolearnEnglish.Theyhavenointerestinlearningit.Needlesstosay,theycan’tmakegreatprogress,juststayontheoriginallevel.IthinkitisashortcomingincurrentEnglisheducation.What’smore,ourteachersonlyfocusonthetestskills,ratherthanpracticalabilities.Forexample,whenweareinmiddleschool,ourEnglishteachersneglectourspokenEnglishsothatwecan’tcommunicatewithothersfluently.Theyjustteachushowtogethighmarks,andtheboringteachingcontentsmakesomestudentsgraduallylosetheirinterestonlearningit,andsoourEnglishcan’timprovequickly.
ItisknownthatEnglishisanimportantsubjectforstudents,sotheparentssendtheirchildrentotakepartinextratrainingonweekend.Ican’timaginethatthelittlechildrenareforcedtolearnEnglishratherthanenjoytheirchildhood.Fromprimaryschooltouniversity,youmusttakealotofEnglishexams.SometimesI’mwonderingwhethertheeducationsystemisreasonableornot.
MaybeimprovingEnglishteachinginChinamakenosense,butitisimportanttochangeoureducationsystem.IfwearewillingtolearntoEnglish,I’msureourEnglishisbetterthannow.
Howcanwemakeprogress?
Ithinkwestillhavealongwaytogo.
Educationisafruitofsociety,whileitsstartingpointistheneedofthecommunity.Thebasiceducationhasbeenlongconcentratedonentranceexamandintendedtotrainoutstandingstudents.Theresultofexamandtherateofenteringhighschoolistheonlystandardstoassessschoolsandappraiseteachers.Asaresult,schoolsdowithoutfollowingtheeducationalrule,teachersteachinahard-and-fastway,studentslosetheirinitiative,enthusiasmandcreativitytolearn.Astheimplementactionofcompulsoryeducation,examination-orientededucationsystemhasgraduallytakenplaceofeducationforall-arounddevelopment;theteachingreformwillpaymoreattentiontotherequirementofmoderntechnologiesandteachingdisciplines.Itistheoutcomeofpoliticalandeconomicalsysteminnovationsincereformandopening.Itisthesymbolofsocialprogress.ItistheimpersonalpreconditionandnewopportunityforHappyTeachingMethodaswell.Asanewteachingmethod,thosewhoarenotfamiliarwithitmayaskwhatitis.Inshort,HappyTeachingMethodmeansjoyfulstudy,entertaining,educating,andenriching.
HappyTeachingMethodistoproceedfromcharacteristicsofeachsubject,followstudents’psychologicalrulesofdevelopment,adoptthelivelyteachingmethods,letstudentsobtainnewknowledgeconstantlythroughthestudyoftheabundantcontentofcoursesinagoodmoodandreceivespiritualsatisfactionatthesametime.Itregardstrainingtalentsofoveralldevelopmentwithstrongcharactersasitsobject,interests,successfulaestheticcreating,understanding,respectingthroughthewholecourseofteachingsothatteachersandstudentsobtainthehappyexperienceoflearningaidandreceivingharmoniousdevelopmentofbodyandmind.Inbrief,HappyTeachingMethodistoteachhappilytoresidepromptly.Theessenceofhappyteachingliesinmakingstudents'individualcharactersaoverall,harmonious,vividdevelopment.
ThePrimarySchoolaffiliatedtoShanghaiNormalUniversitywasthefirsttoputforwardandimplementtheHappyTeachingMethodin1987.Theypaidattentiontothestudyofstudentsinsteadofconcentratingontheteachingofteachers.Theschooltookareformof“moreilluminations,moreintuitionsandmorepractices”andencouragingstudentstoquestionanddebate.Theyestablishedaclassstructurethatfocusedonthepracticalabilityofstudentswhichincludedquestion,reading,laboratoryoperation,discussion.Itnotonlyeasestheburdenofstudentsbutalsohelpthemstudyhappily.
Beingawareoftheimportanceofeducation,alargenumberofscholarshavedevotedtheirtimeandenergytothecourseoftheeducation.However,asthesayinggoes:
“Thereisnoroyalroadtolearning.”Soiseducation.Educationisnotacoursethatcanbeeasilyachieved.Itisalwaysfullofchallenges.Nowadays,theUnitedStatesistheonlysuperpowerintheworld.Withoutdoubt,Englishisconsideredastheinternationallanguagetoexchangeinformation.Asadevelopingcountry,Chineseparticularlyneedtolearntheadvancedtechnologyfromthedevelopedcountries.Therefore,ChinesestudentsoughttomasterEnglishwelltocontributetomotherland.What’smore,afterChinaentersintoWTO,sheisplungedintoaninternationalcompetitioninmanyaspects.Thus,inordertokeeppacewiththeworld,ChinesestudentsalsooughttolearnEnglishwell.Asamatteroffact,EnglishistaughtasaforeignlanguageinChina.StudentslearnEnglish,rangingfromprimaryschool,secondaryschool,andcollege.
AsforEnglishlearning,itisaheadachebothforteachersandstudentsinChina.Ontheteachers’part,theyareexploringthemostsuitablewaytoteachstudents.Onthestudents’part,somethinkthatpronunciationisverydifficult;whileothersclaimthatgrammarismuchmoretedious.Differentpeoplehavedifferentviews.Franklyspeaking,EnglishismorecomplexinsomeaspectscomparingwithChinese.Justtakeinvertedsentencestructureforexample,therearealotofrulesforstudentstoremember.Whenandhowtouseit?
ItisveryhardtounderstandforChinesestudents,fortherearenosuchcomplexinvertedsentencesinChinese.Asaresult,Chinesestudentsalwaysfeelpuzzledattheprocessoflearningandcannotuseitcorrectly.Especially,Englishisthemostdifficultforjuniorstudents,fortheyarephysicallyandemotionallyimmature.Theycannotconcentratethemselvesonthetediousgrammarfor45minutesandmayeasilylosetheirpassionandinterestinEnglish.Accordingly,reformandadjustmentareneededatonce.
Ihavebeenteachingthestudentswhoareintheirsecondyearofamiddleschool.Inmyteaching,I’vefoundtherearesomeproblems.IhopeIcansolvetheproblemsthathavetroubledmeforsometimeinpracticesothatIcanapplymyknowledgeandtheoryintopracticewhichIlearnedfromHuNanAgriculturalUniversity.
1StatusquoofForeignlanguageeducationinChina
Asthemostpopulouscountryintheworld,ChinaalsoboastsoneofthelargestpopulationsofEnglishlearnersandahistoryofoversevendecadesofEnglishteachingandlearning.Traditionally,EnglishteachinginChinaisdominatedbyateacher-centered,book-centered,grammartranslationmethodandemphasisonrotememory.Asamatteroffact,thisapproachisstillexistentinsomemiddleschools.ThesetraditionalteachingapproachesreflectthetypicalChineseclassroomforlearningEnglish;thatis,mostoftheinteractionintheclassroomisformtheteachertothestudent.Thereislittlestudentinitiativeandlittlestudent-studentinteraction.Asaresult,afterstudyingEnglishforseveralyears,thestudentsmighthavelearnedhowtoanalyzesentencestructuresandhowtotranslateandappreciateEnglishliterature,buttheyremainatalosswhentheymeetEnglishspeakers.ThisinabilitytoapplywhattheyhavelearnedintheclassroomgreatlylimitsChinesestudentsincommunicatingeffectivelywithWesterners.
SinceChinabeganheropendoorpolicy,shehasgreatlyincreasedcontactwithforeigncountries,whichhasgivenmoreimportancetotheuseofforeignlanguage.Nearlyalltradesandprofessionsneedpeoplewhohaveattainedforeignlanguageproficiencyinvaryingdegrees.Learningaforeignlanguageisalsoconducivetothedevelopmentofchildren’sintelligence,culturalawareness,andoutlookontheworld.Soforeignlanguageislistedasanessentialcomponentofcompulsoryeducationinfulltimemiddleschools,thishasproducedaheightenedinterestaboutEnglishteachingmethodsinChina.
