Whenonemorninginarushtoschool,Ispilled(泼洒)mycupoforangejuice.IimmediatelythoughtofthepreciousminutesIwouldhavetospendincleaningupthefloor.Iracedbackandforthtothesink(洗碗槽)withakitchenclothsoaked(浸透)withjuicetowashoff.MylegswereshakingasIwatchedfrommywindowtheschoolbuscomingtomystreet.Withinaminute,Ihadthrowntheorangejuice-soakedclothtothesinkandranoutsidetojointhegroupofkidsinenteringthebus.Whenthinkingaboutmymorningrushtocleanupthespilledjuiceonthebus,IrealizedhowmuchunnecessarystressandworryIputmyselfthrough.Iendedupsmilingtomyselfaboutmyminornervousnessoverspilledjuice.
ThesedaysIdon’tusuallyspillorangejuice,butIdosometimesspillabitofspaghettisauceonmypantorputonmysweaterbackwardswhenI’mreallytiredandinahurryforschool.Ineachofmymistakes,Itrytoremindmyselfnottotakemyselfsoseriously.Ittakesmeaminutetocalmdown,takeadeepbreathandsmileatmycarelessness.Itistheabilitytoseemistakesinadifferentwaythatenablesmetofindhumorineverydaymoments.

Theresultsdidnotsurprisetheresearchers.Afterall,birdslivingincitiesandtownsfacemanymorechallengesanddangersthanthosethatliveinthecountry.Butasitturnsout,thecitybirdsprovedtohavebetterimmunityandarethereforemoreresistant(抵抗的)todiseasesthanthoselivinginthecountryside.Whileadditionalstudiesneedtobedonetoseeifthisistrueforallcitybirds,thereisnoreasontobelievethattheresultswouldbeanydifferent.
Thoughthisisthefirsttimeresearchershavecomparedthecognitiveabilitiesofbirdslivingindifferentconditions,itisnotthefirststudytoexaminethedifferencesbetweencityandcountrybirds.Previousresearchhasshownthatblackbirdsincitesaresimilarlymorecarefulthancountryblackbirds,andthatsparrowsandblackbirdslivingincitiessingatahigherfrequencytobeheardovercitynoiseandtomakeupforsounddistortions(失真)causedbytallbuildings.Ifonlybirdsknewtheadvantagesoflivingamonghumans,maybemorewouldmovetocities!
