Sirois,inadvocatingforherson,hasbecomearesourceforotherparentswithkidswhoaregendernonconforming.ShestartedalocalgroupinRaleighcalledS.E.A.R.CH.(SafeEnvironmentfortheAcceptanceofRainbowCHildren)andblogsopenlyaboutherfamily’sexperience.Shereceiveshundredsofemails,manyfromparentsthankingherforhersupport,butsomefromkidswhoaresufferingbecausetheyknowtheyaretransgender,butarescaredtotelltheirparents,shesaid.
马蒂支持查理做自己的做法感染了很多父母,他们的孩子也难以认同自己的生理性别。
马蒂在当地成立了一个组织,叫“为跨性别孩子争取合理生存空间”(S.E.A.R.CH.),还在博客上公开了自己的经历。
她说,在收到的几百封邮件中,很多是有相同经历的父母发来感谢她的支持的,还有些是孩子们发来的,他们知道自己是跨性别者,但不敢告诉父母。

So,itwasinthatspiritlastspring,whenhestartedaskingaboutshoppingatthetweenclothingstore,Justice,thatshedecidedshewouldtakehim.Butthedaybeforesheplannedtogo,herstatemadeitalawthattransgenderpeoplehadtousethebathroomthatcorrespondedwiththeirgenderatbirthandnotthegendertheyarenow.ToSirois,itwasjustanotherpainfulreminderofthediscriminationhersonfaced,notjustfromadolescentsinhisschool,butfromhisgovernment.Tensionsaround LGBTQ issueswerehighinherstate,sosheputoffthetriptothegirls’clothingstore.Shedidn’tknowiftheycouldlegallybanCharliefromusingthedressingrooms.
正因如此,去年春天查理说想去Justice买衣服的时候,马蒂同意了。
本来都定好了日子,结果前一天,北卡罗来纳州颁布了一项法律,宣布跨性别者只能使用与其生理性别相同的卫生间,而非其心理性别。
对马蒂来说,这又一次让她痛心地认识到,查理将要面对多少歧视。
不仅他的同学要歧视他,现在连他的北卡州也要歧视他。
在北卡,反对LGBTQ的呼声很高,所以马蒂推迟了去Justice女童服饰店的计划。
她不知道人家会不会搬出法律,不让查理试衣服。
LGBTQ:
LGBT是英文女同性恋者(Lesbians)、男同性恋者(Gays)、双性恋者(Bisexuals)与跨性别者(Transgender)的首字母缩略字。
也有人在词语后方加上字母“Q”,代表酷儿(Queer)和/或对其性别认同感到疑惑的人(Questioning),即是“LGBTQ”。
Monthslater,withthehelpofamominhersupportgroupcallingthestoreaheadoftimetodeterminewhetheraboywouldbeturnedaway,SiroisfinallytookCharlieshoppingthereonSept.9afterschool.ThemanagertookCharliearoundthestore,asthoughshewerehispersonalshopper,andstayedpasthershifttohelphimfeelcomfortable.
几个月后,一位加入S.E.A.R.CH的妈妈帮马蒂给Justice打了电话,提前确认查理是否能进去挑衣服,她得到了肯定答复。
九月九号放学后,马蒂带着查理去了。
经理领着小查理这儿看看,那儿转转,就好像她是他的私人导购一样。
