Statisticalforecastsarebestestimatesofwhatwilloccurinthefuturebasedonthedemandthathasoccurredinthepast.Historicaldemanddatacanbeusedtoproduceaforecastusingsimplelinearregression(回归).Thisgivesequalweightingtothedemandofthehistoricalperiodsandprojectsthedemandintothefuture.However,forecaststodaygivegreateremphasisonthemorerecentdemanddatathantheolderdata.Thisiscalledsmoothingandispreducedbygivingmoreweighttotherecentdata.Exponential(指数的)smoothingreferstoever-greaterweightinggiventothemorerecenthistoricalperiods.Thereforeaperiodtwomoothsagohasagreaterweightingthanaperildsixmonthsago.TheweightingiscalledtheAlphaFactorandthehighertheweighting,orAlphafactorthefewerhistorecalperiodsareusedtocreatetheforecast.Forexample,ahighAlphafactorgiveshighweightingtoreacentperiodsanddemandfromperiodsforayearortwoyearsagoareweightedsolightlythattheyhavenobearingontheoverallforecast.AlowAlphafactormeanshistoricaldataismorerelevanttotheforecast.
