Johnorderedhisownflowersandhadtheclerktobesurethatdeliverywouldincludeanotetellinghismotherhowmuchhelovedher.Ashedroveawayfromtheshop,hewasfeelinggood.Hecaughtalightabouttwoblocksfromtheshop.Ashewaited,hesawtheboywiththerosesenteringacemetery.
Thelightchanged,andJohnslowlycrossedtheintersection.Hepulledoverandonanimpulsegotoutandbegantofollowtheboy.Theboystoppedbyasmallmonumentandwenttohisknees.Helaidtherosesonthegraveandbegantosob.Johnstaredatthelittleboy'stremblingbodyandlistenedtohiscrying.
ThenJohnheardtheboycry,"Oh,Mommy,whydidn'tItellyouhowmuchIloveyou.Whydidn'tItellyouonemoretime?
Jesus,please,findmyMommy.TellmyMommyIloveher."
Johnturned,tearsinhiseyes.Hedrovequicklytothefloristandtoldherhewouldtaketheflowerspersonally.Hewantedtotellhismotheronemoretimejusthowmuchhelovedher.

Thesedays,itseemsthatalmostallofushavesomethingtoworryabout.
Peoplearefrustratedanduptightaboutalmosteverything--beingfiveminuteslate,havingsomeoneelseshowupfiveminuteslate,beingstuckintraffic,witnessingsomeonelookatuswrongorsaysomethingwrong,payingbills,waitinginline,overcookingameal,makinganhonestmistake--younameit,weallbecomeupsetoverit.
Therootcauseforbeingupsetisourunwillingnesstoacceptlifeasbeingdifferent,inanyway,fromourexpectations.Verysimply,wewantthingstobeacertainwaybuttheyarenotacertainway.
Lifeissimplyasitis.PerhapsBenjaminFranklinsaiditbest:
"Ourlimitedperspective,ourhopesandfearsbecomeourmeasureoflife,andwhencircumstancesdonotfitourideas,theybecomeourdifficulties."Wespendourliveswantingthings,peopleandeventstobejustaswewantthemtobe--andwhentheyarenot,wefightandwesuffer.
Howdowereducethissuffering?
Thefirststepinrecoveringfromabadmoodistoadmitthatyouhaveaproblem.Youhavetowanttochange,tobecomemoreeasygoing.Youhavetoseethatyourownstateofheartislargelyofyourowncreation--itiscomposedofthewayyousetupyourlifeandthewayyoureacttoit.
Thenextstepistounderstandthelinkbetweenyourexpectationsandyourfrustrationlevel.Wheneveryouexpectsomethingtobeacertainwayanditisn't,youareupsetandyousuffer.Ontheotherhand,whenyouletgoofyourexpectations,whenyouacceptlifeasitis,youarefree.Toholdonistobeseriousanduptight.Toletgoistolightenup.

LyingtoaLovedOne
Whatarethebenefitsoflyingtoalovedone?
Whetherwelikeitornot,ourrelationshipsareheldtogether,notonlybytellingthetruth,butalsobyknowinghowandwhentolie.Andifthetruthbetold,ourcloserelationshipscouldnotworkwithoutsomedegreeofdeception.Noonewanttoheareverything,andtellingtherightlieattherighttimeisjustasimportantastellingthetruthwhenitcomestoloveandromance.
