sstrugglesandaspirations,allthewhileenjoyingherwriting,which,likeherkid-rearingphilosophy,isbrisk,livelyandno-holds-barred.Thismemoirraisesintriguing,sometimesuncomfortablequestionsaboutlove,pride,ambition,achievementandself-worththatwillresonateamongsuccess-obsessedparents.Isitpossible,forexample,thatChineseparentshavemoreconfidenceintheirchildren'
sabilities,orthattheyaresimplywillingtoworkharderatraisingexceptionalchildrenthanWesternersare?
Unfortunately,theauthorleavesmanyquestionsunansweredasherbooklimpsitswaytoaconclusion,withChuaacknowledgingheruncertaintyabouthowtofinishitandthefamilystilldebatingtheprosandconsofherapproach(anyonehopingforatotalrenunciationoftheChineseapproachwillbedisappointed).
