Abstract
Translationislikeabridge,connectingeachsideofdifferentcultures.Transformingfromonegenerationtothenext,eachcultureisblessedwithuniquecharacteristic,meanwhileaccompanyingwithamountofCulturalBoundTerms(CBTs)cumberingtheunderstandingandcommunicationamongdifferentofcultures.DiscoveringaneffectivewayoftranslatingproperlythoseCulturalBoundTermsimplicatedinChineseliteratureworks,especiallyinChineseClassicworkshasasignificantimpactontransmittingChineseculture,helpingemancipatemisunderstandingsamongdifferentculturesandalsocontributestopreserveandpromoteourownculture.ThisarticleaimsatresearchingthefunctionandinfluenceofCulturalBoundTermsinChineseliteraturesoastoconcludesomesuggestivemethodsforguidingpracticaltranslationimplement.Onlyifdidtranslationandculturecombinednaturally,internationalcommunicationcanbetrulyachieved.

翻译是一座桥梁,中西方不同的文化就是两个河岸。
每一种民族文化都有其长久发展的独特魅力,文化的个性所衍生出的大量文化限制词给各个文化之间的顺畅交流造成了障碍。
中国文学作品尤其是古典文学作品中蕴藏着大量反映中华文化特色的词语,探讨这些词语的翻译不仅对传播中国文化具有重要意义,更有利于世界对中华文化的理解和传承。
本文旨在探讨文化限制词的翻译在中国文学翻译中的作用和意义,并归纳指导翻译实践的方法。
只有使翻译与文化自然融合,才能达到民族间的真正交流

1.Introduction
Withthetrendofglobalization,insteadofinternationalculturalhostility,theincreasinginternationalcommunicationmakesculturalcompatibilitystrongerthandecadesago.MeanwhilethemorepowerfulChinabecome,themoreforeignerswanttolearnChineseandChineseculture.ItistherighttimeforexpandingChinesecultureinfluencearoundtheentireworld.However,justasweknown,Chineseculturehasadereismitself,representingparticularlyinthoseCulturalBoundTerms.Therefore,inChineseliteraturetranslation,exploringauniversalwaytotranslateandexplainproperlythoseboundtermsiscomingtoitsown.
ThefirstpartgivesageneralbackgroundofCulturalBoundTerms(CBTs).ThesecondpartofthethesisisdevotedtobrieflystaterelationshipofliteratureculturetranslationandCBTsandexemplifiestheprevioustranslationmethodsapplyinginChineseliteraturetranslationduringrecentdecades.ThethirdpartmainlyfocusesonCulturalBoundTermsincluding:
definitionofthisacademictermfromthewesterner’sunderstandingandChineseunderstandingandtheclassificationofdifferenttypesofCulturalBoundTermsandgivetherelatedexamples.TheforthpartiselaborateonthetranslatabilityanduntranslatabilityofCulturalBoundTermsinChineseliterature.ThefifthpartaimstofigureoutthespecificandconnotativetranslationstrategiesinChineseliteraturetranslationfromsomeexcellenttranslationworksinacademicfield.ThosestrategiesarenottheonlyorfixedruleforexcellenttranslationbuttheflexibleandchangeablethinkingaccordingtopracticalimplementintheprocessofChineseliteraturetranslation.Thelastpartistoconcludethemainpurposeandinfluenceofthisthesis.

ThefundamentalgoalofstudyingCBTsinChineseliteratureistorealizethebarriersofinter-culturalcommunicationsandmakepeopleofdifferentculturalbackgroundstocommunicatesuccessfullywitheachother.ThemostimportantpurposeistotransmitChineseliteratureandcultureandmeanwhiletodevelopacommonunderstandingofChineseculture.Moreover,Itisfarmoreenoughbyonlyrealizingtheproblems,weneedtodiscovertherelativesolutiontotackleallthesequestions,thereforeItisgreatinneedtoconcludethepreviousexperiencesofthosegreattranslators,meanwhilecomingupwiththeinnovativeideasofourowntoenrichandperfectallthetheoreticalmethodtoguidethepractice.
ThisthesismainlydealswithseveralaspectsoftranslatingCCBTs.Theprincipleargumentsofthisthesisare:
(1)WemuststicktoviewthatCCBTsaretranslatable,whichisborneoutbythedefinitionoftranslation,languageandthinkinggeneralityandtheirrelationshipofdialecticalunity,andinterculturaltranslationpractice,andwemustalsoadmitthatlossofinformationisinevitable.
(2)Translatorsshouldflexiblyfollowthetranslationprincipleswhichgreatlydeterminethetranslationtechniquesinactualtranslationpractice.
WehavediscussedalotaboutthetheoryofCBTstranslation.Sofarweonlyhaveoneofthreefoundationsofliteraturetranslation―theappropriatescientificmethod.However,allthetranslationworksarebornfromthehandsoftranslatorsafterall,thequalityoftranslatorswillneverover-demand.Thisisthesecondfoundation.Beingagoodtranslator,oneneedstobeproficientinbothtwolanguages,graspingenormousknowledgeofbothclassicandmodern,andalsotheresponsibilityoftransmittingChineseculture.Lastbutnotleast,theessentialpartisstillpractice.Onlythroughpractice,wecanknowhowtoimproveandperfectallthesetheoriessoastoguidethepracticeaswell.
