Butthepoor lodger whohadtheroomunderthemusician'swaswokenupeachnight,orearlyinthemorning.bythetwothudsthatthetwoshoesmadeastheylandedOnhis ceiling.Finally,hecouldnotstanditanymoreandwentandcomplainedtothemusician.
Naturallythemusicianwasveryupsetandpromisedthat,infuture,aftertakingoffhisshoes,hewouldputthemdownasquietlyaspossibleonthecarpet.
Thenextday,hegotbackfromhisclubataboutoneo'clockinthemorning.wentuptohisroom,satontheedgeofhisbed,tookoffoneshoeandthrewitonthefloor.
Hewasjustabouttodothesamewiththeotherwhensuddenlyrememberedthepromisehehadmadethedaybefore.Sowithgreatcareheputthesecondshoedown silently onthecarpet.Thenhegotintobedandfellfastaslecp.Anhourlater,hewaswokenupbya violent knockingonhisdoor.Itwasthelodgerwhosleptintheroomjustunderhis.
