Theworldartmarkethadalreadybeenlosingmomentumforawhileafterrisingbewilderinglysince
2003.Atitspeakin2007itwasworthsome$65billion,reckonsClareMcAndrew,founderofArts
Economics,aresearchfirm—doublethefigurefiveyearsearlier.Sincethenitmayhavecomedownto$50
billion.Butthemarketgeneratesinterestfarbeyonditssizebecauseitbringstogethergreatwealth,
enormousegos,greed,passionandcontroversyinawaymatchedbyfewotherindustries.
