B)Wewantourstudentstoreceivethesamehigh-qualityeducationasstudentswhoareprivilegedtoattendthebestprivateschoolsinthecountry.Personally,Ibelieveaprogressiveeducationissuperioraslongasit'sdeliveredbyreallysmart,talentedteacherswhoknowhowtoexecutewell.It'sasophisticatedapproachthatreallyonlyworkswellinthehandsofa reallysophisticatededucator.We'redealingwithalittlebitofachallengebecausestudentsenterthisschoolfromtheregularpublicsystem.Andwhentheyenterinfifthgrade,they'renotyetwell-trainedinthebasicsreading,writing,andmath--whichmeansthatwehavetocatchthemuponbasicmathskills,onthe'basicsofwriting.Andmanyofthemcomeinatakindergarten,first,second-gradelevelinreading.Sowehavetoacceleratetheirmasteryofthebasics,butwerejecttheideathatifyoudothatyoucan'tteachthatatahighlevel.Wepushourselvesconstantlytothinkabouthowwecanmakesurethatourstudentswillcatchupwhileweteachatthehighestpossiblelevel.Itmeansaskingdifficult,delicatequestions,notacceptingananswerthatisnotbackedupbyevidence,thekindsofthingsthatyouwouldexpecttoseeinthebestprivateschools.Weaimforahighlevelinrichdiscussionswherethestudentsareaskedtoanalyzeachallengingtextandwheretheteacherdoesnotacceptjustanyanswersimplybecausethestudentisbehaving.WhatmakestheHarlemVillageAcademiesdifferent?
