AmericanscholarWaller(W.Waller)isthefirstpersonthatproposedthedefinitionofcampuscultureInWesterncountries.Inhis“SociologyofEducation”publishedin1932,heregardsthecampuscultureasaspecialformformulatedinschool.InChina,thesloganofstrengtheningtheconstructionofcampusculturewasfirstraisedatShanghaiJiaotongUniversityinApril1986.Afterthat,manyintensivestudieshavebeenmadeinseveralaspectsaboutcampusculture.Butnomatterwhatkindoftheory,iteitherdefinescampusculturefrombroadsense,namely,cultureisagroupculturewithtimecharacteristicandunitesmaterialculturewithinstitutionalculturethattakesstudentsandteachersastheparticipantsubjectandtakesspiritualcultureasthecorewithinthespaceofschool.ordefin”esfromnarrowsense,namely“campusculturereferstoarteducationandvariousactivitieswhichfarfromenoughincurrentschooleducation,soastoenhancestudentsincludesavarietyofcommunityactivitiesandetc."
Campusculture,asanimportantpartofsocialculturewithChinesecharacteristics,enjoysanirreplaceableroleinthesocialistconstruction.Inaddition,thecampuscultureisofcriticalimportanceinschooleducationandsocialdevelopment,especiallyintherapiddevelopmentofknowledge-basedeconomyoftoday,thus,deepenunderstandingofcampusculturehelpstostrengthentheconstructionanddevelopmentofcampusculture,sothatitcouldplayagreaterroleinschooleducationandsocialdevelopment
Thisthesisiswrittenbythemethodofcontrastanalysis,whichmadecomparisonbetweenEasternandWesterncampuscultureintermsofcampusmaterialculture,campusspiritualcultureandcampusinstitutionalculture.
II.CompositionofCampusCulture
Campuscultureisagroupculturewithtimecharacteristicandunitesofmaterialculturewithinstitutionalculturethattakesstudentsandteachersastheparticipantsubjectandtakesspiritualcultureasthecorewithinthespaceofschoolinthebroadsense.Byitsdefinition,thereisahierarchyexistedincampusculture,differentschoolshaveitsownuniqueculture,everyuniqueculturehighlightstheirparticularformofcampusculture.Forexample,intheconstructionofschool,inadditiontoteachingfacilities,moreattentionshouldbegiventotheimpactonstudentsintermsofarchitecturalstyle,ambienceandfacilities;inthecampussystem,inadditiontoemphasisonstudentdisciplinesystem,moreattentionshouldbepaidtotheinfluenceofstudystyle,teachingstyleandcampusspirit.Itformsakindofculturecomposedofcampusmaterialculture,spiritualcultureandinstitutionalculturethatshowstheschool'seducationalphilosophy,cultureatmosphere,historicaltraditionsandetc.
2.1Campusmaterialculture
Campusmaterialcultureisatangibleculturethatincludesallthematerialenvironmentoftheschool.Thecampusmaterialenvironmentisthecarrierofitsideologyandsystem.Andspiritualcultureisbasedonthismaterialculture,namely,thefoundationofcampuscultureconstruction.Suchasthelocation,layoutandconstructionofthecampus,teachingfacilitiesandbooksareallinvolvedintherangeofcampusmaterialculture.Meanwhile,mostofthecampuscultureisbestowedonthephysicalenvironmentofschools,suchasShaoYuan,Triangle,WeimingLakeandformerresidencesofcelebritiesofBeijingUniversity,celebritycorridorofHarvardUniversity,thegreenlandofUniversityofVirginiaandetc.Theyarethesymbolsandsignsthatgiveuniquecharacteristicsandculturetoeachcampus.Itbringsaboutspecialeffectstothestudentsandteachersthere.ThetemperamentofBeijingandTsinghuaUniversitystudentsaredifferentfromtheaverageuniversitystudents,theformerstudentscomewithasenseofprideanddignity.
2.2Campusspiritualculture
Campusspiritualculturereferstospirituallifeandideologyofcollegestudents,alsoknownasintangibleculture.Itisthemainconceptforstudyingcampusculture,suchasvalues,educationalideas,ideologicalandtheoreticalsystemwhichreflectshumanunderstandingoutcomes,behaviorculture,aestheticculture,teachingstyle,thinkingmode,managementstyleandsoon.Campusspiritualcultureisthesoulofcampusculturethatgiveslifeandmeaningtoschools.Itisalsothestandardsandsignstojudgethequalityofcampusculture.Campusspiritualcultureincludesthefollowingfiveaspects:
1.theschoolgoals;2.schoolingconcept;3.campusspirit;4.styleoflearningandteaching;5.schoolethics.Fromtheseaspectswecanjudgeandmeasurethespiritualcultureofeachschool.
2.3CampusInstitutionalCulture
Campusinstitutionalcultureisakindofnormsandcustomwhichincludesvariousceremonies,teachingmethods,researches,curriculumcontent,administrativeoperationsstandards,andregulationsinschool.Institutionalculturereflectstheuniversity'sculturalnorms,whichplaysaregulatoryroleandguides,regulates,anddisciplinesstudentsatthesametime.Inthesenseofteaching,agoodclassatmosphere,ethos,strictregulationsandcodesofconductcanhelpconductingculturequalityeducationinmorepurposeful,plannedandorganizedwaysthatstrengtheningitseffectivenessanddirectionaswellasreducingblindnessandspontaneity.

Campusculture,asaspecialspiritualenvironmentandcultureatmosphereineveryeducationtarget,educatorandstructuralunit,hasitsspecialfunctionsinthefollowingareas:
3.1Thefunctionoforientation
Theso-calledorientationfunctionofcampusculturereferstotheguidingroleofcampusculturethatinfluencestheoverallschoolandeverymemberfortheirvalueandbehaviororientation,soastoconformtotheobjectivesidentifiedbytheschool.
Theorientationfunctionofcampuscultureisembodiedintwoaspects:
first,toinfluenceindividualthoughtandbehavior;second,toinfluencegeneralvalueandbehaviororientation.Aslongasacampuscultureisformed,itwillestablishitsownsystemofvaluesandstandards.Whenitsmembers'valueandbehaviororientationis
onthecontrarytoitsstandard,campusculturewillplayaguidingrole.However,thisroleistoshapeandguideitsmember'spsychologicalbehavior,sothatpeoplewillunconsciouslyacceptthecommonvalues.
3.2Bindingfunction
Bindingfunctionofcampusculturereferstoconstraintandregulatesfunctiontomembers'thought,psychologicalandbehavior.Thebindingfunctionofcampuscultureismoreofasoft-boundconstraintwhichequalstocampuscultureenvironment,normofgroupbehaviorandethics.Groupconsciousness,publicopinion,samecustomandsuchspiritualculturecontentsbringsstrongpressureandmotivationtoforcethetransformationofconformity,arisingpsychologicalresonanceandself-controlofbehavior.
3.3Innovativefunction
Innovativefunctionofcampusculturereferstothecreativeelementhindinthecampuscultureitselfanditsenlightenmentanddevelopmentfunctiontoitsmembersinnovativeconsciousness,potentialandmethods.Richandvariedcampusculturallifeincludesavarietyofknowledgeandfilledupwithcreativity,itinspireseveryonetodevelopthesenseofpioneeringspiritandcreativeinspiration;ontheotherhand,thecampuscultureplaysancrucialroleincultivatingpeople-intellig'enscneofnactors,
suchasmotivation,interest,emotion,will,andcharacter.
3.4Cohesionfunction
Cohesionfunctionofcampusculturemeansonceasetofvalueswassharedbyallmembersoftheschool,itwillbecomeabinderwhichunitesitsmembersfromallaspects,resultinginagreatsolidarityandcohesion.Campusculturecaneffectivelymakestudentsandteacherstogether.Onetheonehand,campusculturecoherepeople
bysharedvalues.Asakindofgroupactivity,campusculturecantrainstudenst'teamandcooperationspiritsinculturalactivities,interaction,intercommunication,mutualaidandmutualencouragement.Onetheonehand,campusculturecanrestrainactionsagainstteambuilding,whichfurtherstrengthenteamcohesiveness.Inaddition,campusculturealsopossessmotivationeffect,whichcanencouragemembers'sens
