TheHoustonPostwasestablishedonFebruary19,1880,byGailBordenJohnson.Laterbecauseoffinancialtroubles,thepaperwassoldandfinallythepublicationceasedin1884.
In1885,theHoustonMorningChronicleandtheHoustonEveningJournalcombined,establishedthepresentHoustonPost.TheuseofthetypesettersmadethePostamodernpioneer.
Largelyontheadvertisingrevenue,thecompanyoperatedboththeradiostationandtelevisionstationKPRC.Inthe1970sthepaperagainbecameapioneerwithitsuseofcomputer-settype.
