TheBigBenisveryfamousthroughouttheworld,butnobodyreallyknowswhyitiscalledBigBen.Therearetwohearsaysaboutthis.SomepeoplesaythatitwasnamedafterBenjaminCaunt,aboxer,whowascalledBigBen.MorepeoplebelieveitwascalledafterWelshman,SirBenjaminHall.Hewasthecommissioner(特派员)oftheworkatthetimeofitsconstructionin1859.AstorywastoldthatduringadebateintheCommonsonwhattocallthebell,SirBenjaminwasabouttogivehisideaswhenanMPwhosatbehindthefrontbenchshouted,“Let’scallitBigBen!
”Thenthisnamecameintobeing.
