    3、 my teaching I have come cross some problems, which have been troubled me for some time. Ill have finished my study in Anqing TV University. I hope I can solve the problem through the action research so that I can apply my knowledge and theory into practice. I think if I design the activities well,

    4、I could improve the students reading ability. . Summary of the Preliminary Research1. ProblemIn the process of my English teaching, I have encountered a wide variety of problems, of which, the problem relate to students poor reading capabilities is one of the most common problems which makes me head

    5、achy, it is mainly reflected in that the students can not finish the reading exercise correctly on time, after class, they have to understand reading materials with the help of dictionary; when they read something in English, their reading speed is rather slow; in examinations, they always scored lo

    6、w in reading, and so on. Reading is a kind of ability to understand and absorb information from written material, which is one of the basic human activities of peoples. It is an important way to acquire knowledge, understand objective things and develop intelligence and emotion. Reading ability is o

    7、ne of the most important and basic ability in the four abilities of English learning. Lack of reading ability has seriously affected students achievements and interests in learning English.2. Problem analysisAccording to years of experience in English teaching as well as the knowledge I have on the

    8、theories of English education, I think that my students poor capabilities in English reading ability is mainly due to the following reasons:(1). A lack of good reading habits, bad reading habits have seriously affected the speed of reading. (2) A lack of good reading skills as well as understanding

    9、of English writing habits, which makes it is difficult to grasp the meaning of English works. (3) A lack of adequate vocabulary and less understanding for grammatical structure of English sentences.1) Analytic MethodBased on careful analysis as well as referring to the advices of my colleagues, I pu

    10、t forward the following questions:Why a few students have a good capability in reading English while most of them havent? If it is anyone else except me who teach my class English, is there any difference in the students scores of examinations of English reading? If there is, it seems that it is me

    11、who should be responsible for the students poor abilities of English reading; if there isnt, is shows that some problems do exist which have an impact on the students abilities of English reading.2) Cause AnalysisIn order to better solve the problem of students poor abilities of English reading, I h

    12、ave further analyzed the cause of the problem from English teaching, the specific is as follows:1. Failing to correct the bad reading habits of students. 2. Failing to establish the correct reading habits of students. 3. Have not taught students the correct reading skills. 4. Have not explained the

    13、norms and characteristics of English writing to students. 5. Pay no attention to the training of the basic abilities of students in English reading. 6. Failing to stimulate students interest in English reading.3) QuestionnaireIn order to confirm my analysis as well as make sure the causes leading to

    14、 the problems, I have designed a questionnaire (see Appendix A) and sent them to my students to finish it. The next day, I have collected the questionnaire and analyzed the feedback, the results showed that : 75% of the students thought that their ability of English reading was poor, 80% students di

    15、d not think that they have good reading habits, while 95% students did not know what a good reading habit is. In addition, 88% of students believed that they lacked reading skills, 90% of students admitted that they did not understand the norms and practices of English writing, 95% of students admit

    16、ted that they had poor basic skills in English learning, while 85% of students believed that they lacked training for basic skills. 80% of students indicated that their interest in reading in English is relatively low. From these data it can be seen that lack of reading ability is a common problem w

    17、hich widely exists in students learning English, and the cause of this problem is mostly due to a lack of targeted training and guidance.4)BrainstormingWhen I began to analyze the problems, I was confused by how to solve this problem, so I turned to asking my colleagues who were experienced in Engli

    18、sh teaching for help. They gave me some suggestions on this issue which enabled me have a more profound understanding and views for this problem, this also let me have a certain degree of confidence for the solution of this problem, after mature consideration, I began to launch a project to solve th

Teaching of English reading can help students to make use of English to acquire various kinds of information quickly to lay the foundation for become tomorrows talents with professional knowledge, sk

    21、ills and foreign language communication skills. Training of English reading is an important part to implement quality education. A students ability of English reading reflect his comprehensive capabilities and quality which has determine whether he can apply knowledge of English and reading skills t

    22、o understand written material in English, whether he can have highly efficient access to modern information quickly and accurately. Meanwhile, reading ability is also the basis for self-learning ability. Modern society has an increasingly high demanding for students reading ability, so in the proces

    23、s of English teaching, it should be paid a sufficient attention.2. The role of the studentsFirst, students should be interested in reading, they should confident to improve their reading skills and foster good reading habits, thereby the mastering right English reading skills and solid basic skills.

The role of the teacherI think that in the process of English teaching, the role an English teacher has played is always a guider, professor or supervisor. He/ She should fi

    25、rst guide students to develop their interest in reading in English, it should let them know the importance of English reading and help them with establishing their confidence for learning. In addition, it should be based on the characteristics of English reading to correct their English reading habi

    26、ts, teach them the characteristics of English writing and skills of English reading, ultimately, it should urge the students to learn words and grammar to cultivate basic skills for English listening as well as.4. Project planThis project is implemented in accordance with the thinking of ways of put

    27、ting forward questions, identifying problems and solving problems. First, it sums up relevant literature review and the educational experience of the authors to put forward the problem of the students low reading ability, and then it designs a survey to find that students low reading ability is due

    28、to their reading habits, writing habits and norms, reading skills and English basic skills, and then it is based on the problems found to design a 4-week project to solve the problem of students low reading ability. Project design According to analysis for preliminary problems and the results of the
