    15、iness correspondence to communicate with customers,producers and other related units in the process of their doing business.2.1 Definition of English Business Correspondence English business correspondence comes in the form of letters, emails or text messages. The method of correspondence depends on

    16、 the issue being addressed, as well as on the party receiving the message. It is called personal correspondence which ordinary people write to their friends and relatives to exchange their moods,thoughts and views.In opposite ,a business correspondence is defined as letters which business people wri

    17、te and receive during their daily business process and transactions.Its kind or wirtten communication between two or more parties.Those business people will write letters to their suppliers and also receive letters from those suppliers.Consumers can communicate with sellers through letters and corre

    18、spondence to ask for information of products,such as price,quality,quantity, samples ,delivery,payment and so on.As a result,business letters is defined to be a means via which people exchange information and communicate ideas during the process of doing business. 2.2 Characteristics of English Busi

    19、ness CorrespondenceAn English business correspondence sets the tone for future interactions. When a prospective client receives a English business correspondence, he immediately forms an impression of the writer and his organization. If the English business correspondence is too casual, the writer m

    20、ay appear insincere or unprofessional. Formal business correspondence can intimidate or alienate the reader. A well-organized and well-written English business correspondence will create a positive first impression.(1) Well-organized. Each English business correspondence addresses a specific purpose

To meet that standard ,writers will express with language in a polite,clearly and concise tone.He will select words and phras

    24、es they use in letters to make sure readers can understand easily and correctly.They will escape from abstract language. They will vary the length of sentences to adopt to the needs and situations,too.They, however, do not limit himself to short, choppy sentences. Whats more,they will use active lan

    25、guage as possible as they can,and try to use less passive voice. A good business English correspondence provides all pertinent information in a concise and clear manner. The writer uses language and an appropriate tone. He simply keeps the vocabulary and avoids using technical or abstract language t

    26、o impress the reader. He varies sentences length, steering that is away from long, rambling sentences with excessive details. He, however, does not limit himself to short, choppy sentences. Whenever possible, he uses the active voice instead of the passive voice.(3)Formal and structured.Most company

    27、 requires their employees to follow its format and other requirements when they write English business letters. Except a double space left between different paragraphs,all English business letters has a format of a single space and being justified in the left.As for the modified block,letters are wr

    28、itten in the format as a common block,but the positions,date and closing are at the center this time to show the difference.In general,English business correspondence contains prats as follows:Date,address,salutation,subject line,complimentary closing ,signature and attachments.In most case,English
