2、ife. Yes, life is a matter ofchoice. Seemimgly, it means a choice of tangiblethings. But in essence, it means choosing a way oflife. Life is to be lived, savored, and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complainedabout. Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and
3、-death disease-SARS. Yet, even during those dreadful times, some afflicted people remainedoptimistic. Instead of wearing neutral white masks, some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happymood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean SMILE AND REMAINSMILING.I was deeply touched b
4、y their optimisim, nearly forgetting that were still in abattle. people who survive these kinds of circumstances, （at some point）decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelmingodds.laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement, are subject to desperation
5、that being unmeployed has brought onthem. But,encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating theirvalues.Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adve
6、rsities, we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherishhopes.Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life thatday. 10、our country?The cynics say the college students are the pampered lostgeneration, which would cringe at the slightestdiscomfort. But the cynics arewrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to liveindependently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain tog
11、ether, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocketmoney.The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades;and we neglect the need for charactercultivation. But again, the cynics arewrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seektruth. Last week, tho
12、usands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from bloodcancer.As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in ourlives. We all face a fundamentalchoice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our
13、 future, or even the future of ourcountry. I believe in all my fellowclassmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bitchildish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on ourresponsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and ta
14、sks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a betterplace.
