1.巴克的内心有着强烈的野性。

此前,巴克一直尽力不与斯皮兹发生冲突。
但现在这事儿实在太过分了。
它怒气冲冲地扑向斯皮兹。
斯皮兹大吃一惊。
它早知道巴克体格魁梧,但没想到巴克有这么凶猛。
弗朗索瓦也颇感意外,但他猜到了巴克为什么如此怒不可遏。
4.“冲上去,巴克!
”他叫喊道:
“去揍它,这个可耻的小偷!
”
5.斯皮兹也摆好架势,要打上一架。
两条狗对峙着,一边兜着圈子,一边寻找扑上去的机会。
突然间,他们听到佩罗特的叫喊,只见上百条狗包围了雪橇。
这些狗来自一座印地安人的村庄。
它们闻到雪橇上有食物,正围在那里,搜个不停。

他们花了六天时间,努力寻找一处过河的地方。
对狗也好、对人也好,踏出的每一步都是危机四伏。
有一回,雪橇从冰面坠下去,把戴夫和巴克也带了下去。
等到弗朗索瓦和佩罗特把它们从河里拽上来时,它们全身都被包在冰里了。
当时气温零下四十五度,佩罗特和弗朗索瓦只得点起一堆火来烤干、温暖它们的身体。
